Raising Four Boys with Intention: Homeschooling, Simple Living & Finding Joy in the Everyday
Motherhood has taught me that some of the most meaningful moments in life are often found in the ordinary ones, the conversations around the table, learning together at home, exploring somewhere new as a family, or watching my boys become their own unique little people.
I’m Sherane, a wife, mother of four boys, homeschool mom, content creator, and the woman behind Virtú + Vitality, where I share our family’s journey through homeschooling, family travel, lifestyle, and motherhood. Our home is full of energy, laughter, learning, and, as you can probably imagine with four boys, plenty of activity!
Raising Four Boys
Of course, raising four boys also comes with challenges. There are busy schedules, different educational needs, a lot of food, plenty of messes, and days when motherhood requires every ounce of patience I have. But those challenges have also taught me to slow down and remember that I don't have to create a perfect childhood for my children. I want to create a meaningful one.
That's something I try to carry into every area of our family life.
Why We Chose Homeschooling
Our decision to homeschool was one we made prayerfully. It wasn't simply an educational choice for our family; it was a path I truly believe the Lord led me to.
As we prayed about what was best for our children, I felt increasingly drawn toward creating a learning environment at home where we could be intentional not only about their education, but also about the values and principles we wanted to instill in them. Homeschooling gave us the opportunity to make faith a natural part of our everyday lives while allowing me to be closely involved in how our boys learn and grow.
Our homeschooling journey has evolved over the years, and I've learned that what works beautifully in one season may need to change in another. We've made adjustments along the way, but the heart behind our decision has remained the same: seeking God's direction and doing what we believe is best for our family.
One of the things I value most about homeschooling is that learning doesn't have to be confined to a desk or classroom. It can happen at a museum, during a family trip, while caring for a pet, in the kitchen, outside in the garden, or through a simple conversation around the table.
Homeschooling has taught me to remain prayerful, flexible, and attentive to the individual needs of each of my children. I don't expect every season to look the same. Instead, I trust the Lord to continue guiding us as our family grows and our needs change.
Choosing a Simpler, More Intentional Childhood
As my children grow, I’m becoming increasingly mindful of simplicity and sustainability.
For me, green living doesn’t mean trying to transform our entire lifestyle overnight. It’s about making thoughtful choices where we can—growing things at home, teaching our children to care for what they have, reducing unnecessary waste, reusing items when possible, and choosing quality over quantity.
I also appreciate toys and keepsakes that feel meaningful rather than disposable. That’s something I appreciate about Smiling Tree Gifts and their focus on thoughtfully made, sustainable gifts. It aligns with something I’m learning more and more as a mother: our children don’t necessarily need more things. Sometimes, simplicity allows them to appreciate what they already have so much more.
I want my boys to understand that caring for what God has given us—including the world around us—is something we can practice through the everyday choices we make as a family.
What Our Days Look Like
Our days often include schoolwork, meals, activities with the boys, household responsibilities, and caring for our youngest. Somewhere in between all of that, I’m creating content, answering emails, editing videos, planning projects, or sharing pieces of our lives online.
Balancing motherhood, homeschooling, marriage, home, and content creation isn’t always easy. I’ve learned that balance doesn’t necessarily mean giving everything equal attention every single day.
Some days, my children need more of me. Other days, I may have deadlines or projects that require additional attention. I’ve learned to give myself grace and recognize that there is a season and time for everything.
Fall Is My Season
As we head into fall, I get especially excited because I absolutely love this time of year.
And one of my biggest fall must-haves is simple: pumpkin everything!
I love pumpkin-flavored treats, cozy fall recipes, seasonal outings, decorating, and all the little traditions that make the season feel special.
Fall also feels like an invitation to slow down. It’s a wonderful time to get outside as a family, enjoy seasonal activities, spend more evenings together at home, and create memories the kids will remember long after the season is over.
Sharing Our Journey
When people follow Virtú + Vitality, I want them to see real family life.
I share homeschooling, motherhood, family-friendly travel and activities, lifestyle, modest fashion, and the everyday moments in between. I especially love helping other families discover places to visit, things to do with their children, and ideas that can make family life a little more enjoyable and meaningful.
More than anything, I hope what I share encourages other mothers to recognize that there isn’t only one right way to build a beautiful life for your family.
Our family is still learning. We’re still growing. We’re still adjusting when something no longer works for us. And through every season, I’m learning to remain prayerful, intentional, and grateful for the opportunity to raise these four boys.
Because one day, these busy days will look very different.
For now, I want to embrace them: the homeschooling days, the family adventures, the messes, the laughter, the pumpkin-everything fall seasons, and even the challenging moments.
These are the days that are shaping our family, and I’m grateful to be present for them.
